Rob Bailey selected for Trade City by Rogue Project Space

For TradeCity Rob Bailey exhibits new work, which signals a shift in direction for his practice, as he develops illustration and graphic pieces into three-dimensional forms, exploring ideas around objects and sculptural form, and continuing his investigation into the use of colour. Taking inspiration from landscapes, Bailey investigates how our view of nature and landscape can be pared down to simplified forms and colour codes, producing abstracted sculptures that still resonate with our experience of these environments. The works chart a progression in Bailey’s career as they draw and expand on ideas and research initiated and executed during his residency period at Rogue Project Space from July to September 2008.

Rob Bailey is a Manchester based artist and graduate from Manchester Metropolitan University. In 2007 he was shortlisted for Urbis Best of Manchester Awards and in 2008 staged his first solo exhibition 'Hello World' at Common. Following the success of this show he was invited to be artist in residence at Rogue Project Space and more recently has participated in the group show The Intertwining Line at Cornerhouse, and exhibited Vice as part of Futuresonic, at Cube, Manchester, in May 2009. Previous exhibitions include: a co-produced short film commissioned by North West Vision, 2008-09; ‘Stick, Stamp, Fly’, Gasworks, London, 2007; and Exposures, Cornerhouse, Manchester, 2006.
